In the desire to uphold the honor and dignity of the music teaching profession, further the interests of its members and their students, raise the standards of music teaching in the Washington Metropolitan Area, and promote a better appreciation of the profession by the public; we, The Washington Music Teachers Association, do hereby adopt this Code of Ethics:
- Members shall be truthful in all promotion and advertising. The terms of their arrangements with students shall be clearly stated in advance and consistent with ethical business practice.
- Members shall refrain from malicious criticism of other teachers and shall be scrupulous in all comments regarding their work. Moreover, members shall be generous in their behavior toward their colleagues, taking care to give credit where credit is due in all matters pertaining to the profession.
- Members shall observe the utmost propriety in the solicitation of students and shall take care that their methods of recruitment encourage responsibility in dealings between prospective students and other teachers.
- Members shall abide by the spirit, as well as the letter, of all rules and regulations of events sponsored by the organization. In particular, they shall be vigilant in guarding against conflicts of interest in competitive events.
- Members shall at all times conduct themselves in a fashion which will reflect credit upon the association, avoiding even the appearance of ethical conflict.
